Have a Colour Fight with DYI Biodegradable Colour Packs

Looking for a fun project with the kids over summer break?  How about a neighborhood color fight? First, you must make your color packs using spring roll skins and PurColour powder.

20150608_153425

You will want to prepare a drying area by lining the area with foil.  Wet a spring roll skin in warm water.  Place on foil.  Fill the spring roll skin with ½ Cup PurColour Powder.

20150608_153550

Gently, fold spring roll skin horizontal and then vertically to create square pack.  Make sure the seams are sufficiently wetted to seal completely.   Transfer color pack to drying area and place on foil.  Drying process typically takes 12 – 24 hours, depending on room temperature and humidity.

20150608_154310

You will turn the packs over half way thru the drying process.  You will know it is ready to turn when the exposed size has completely hardened.Once dried, gather all your friends and have a fun color fight.  Please note, you may want to use eye protection, depending on how aggressive the participation.

Partnering with Angry Mob Music and Biscuit Filmworks, Know New Art pays homage to the talented artists among us who have yet to be discovered. The Newport Beach Film Festival strives to find these artists, provide them a stage, and create a big, emotional impact, sometimes on a global scale. The festival serves as a place of profound awareness and exposure, both for the artist and the audience.

In our in-theater promo, from Biscuit’s identical twin directing duo the Freise Brothers, we have created a new form of non-traditional art that serves as a metaphor for the festival. In a high-contrast black-and-white world underpinned by Ezza Rose’s haunting musical track “Ophelia,” we follow an eccentric, rifle-toting new-age punk and her butler through a field of high grass where they pause to shoot a round of skeet. In an unexpected turn, clay pigeons have been replaced with homemade color bombs filled with brilliant powder which the sharp-shooting artist magnificently paints the sky with.

Color The Quads Raises $60,000 For Local Charities

Reprinted from http://www.melfostercoblog.com. Posted on June 20, 2014 by mfadmin

Mel Foster Co.’s Color the Quads raised $60,000 for local charities during its second annual colorful run on May 31 in Bettendorf, Iowa. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the second Color the Quads event went to Child Abuse Council, March of Dimes of the Mississippi Valley  and Rick’s House of Hope. Each organization will receive $20,000, thanks to the generosity of over 2,000 participants, 300 children racers and sponsors.

“With one in nine babies born premature in the Quad City area, The March of Dimes of Mississippi Valley wants to thank Mel Foster Co. employees for choosing us a charity of Choice for this year’s Color Run. The money raised will help us get closer to the day when all babies are born healthy,” stated Deena Bradford, Mississippi Valley Division Director of March of Dimes

“The Child Abuse Council was proud to be a charity partner for the Mel Foster Color the Quads. It was a fun and exciting experience for us.  It gave our board members, staff and volunteers an unique and energetic way to be engaged in an event; and we valued the increased awareness it brought to child abuse prevention,” mentioned Rondi Doyle, Director of Communications/Special Events.

“Rick’s House of Hope is honored to be part of a fun, colorful event and grateful to be named as a charity recipient. We thank Mel Foster, Co., the sponsors, runners and volunteers, who make this race great. The funds received make our mission possible, to ensure the needs of grieving and traumatized children are not overlooked,” said Emily Gordon, Executive Director of Rick’s House of Hope

The event’s Color Extraordinaire, Color Party, Kid’s Color Dash, Color Explosion and Color Burst sponsors include; Mel Foster Co., XPAC, Tri-City Electric, Eye Surgeons Associates, Orthopaedic Specialists, Gomez May LLP, Vollertsen, Britt & Gorsline P.C., Smart Toyota of the Quad Cities, Active Endeavors, Build To Suit, Enviromark, Hawkeye Paving Corp., Hy-Vee, KISS-FM, KWQC, Mickle Communications, Pear Advertising, Pella Windows & Doors, Quad-City Times, Radon Solutions, Russell, TMI – Total Maintenance Inc., Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., and Victorystore.com.

“We were thrilled once again at the support of our sponsors and this community.  The only way to pull an event like this off is because of a collaborative effort by local businesses and individual race participants who see the value in giving back to the community we live and work in,” said Lynsey Engels, President, Real Estate Brokerage for Mel Foster Co.

Mel Foster Co. plans to hold Color the Quads again in 2015 on May 30. For future event updates, go to www.colorthequads.com or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ColorTheQuads.

Let the good times run at Pensacola NAS 2,500 turn out for Jubilee by the Bay Run, Walk, or Drag with Color at Pensacola Naval Air Station

Jubliee by the Bay 2014 with PurColour
Plumes of purple, green and gold billowed up from the streets at Pensacola Naval Air Station on Saturday, but rather than the remnants of whimsical munitions, these colorful clouds were just the signs of a reveling good time.

The second Jubilee by the Bay Run, Walk, or Drag with Color drew about 2,500 people out to NAS on a brisk Saturday morning with the dual promise of a run like no other in the area and a kicking after party.

“It’s just something fun,” said Amy Newman, executive director of Jubilee by the Bay and Pensacola Mardi Gras. “There’s no set times. There’s not set rules of any sort. It’s like when you were little and you liked to play in the mud, but you can be a grown-up.”

Runners showed up in all sorts of frilly, shiny, springy headgear — and there were more than a few tutus — but everyone wore the same white race T-shirt.

By the end of the race though, there was neither shirt nor runner left untouched by the Mardi Gras colored corn starch that was hurled at the runners as they trekked the roughly 5K course.

Saturday’s run was not a race. Runners were not timed, and no winner was declared. But that didn’t keep some of the more avid runners from pushing themselves ahead of the pack.

University of West Florida senior Drew Kennedy, 21, was first to cross the finish line in just over 19 minutes. Despite his performance, the graphic design major said it wasn’t the run that drew him to Saturday’s event.

“I’m here for the party,” he said as he wiped green dust from his teeth.

In fact, colored teeth were a theme at Friday’s run, which is why Nikki McLendon and her friend Jocelyn Kelly stood out.

Though doused in color like everyone else, the two ladies’ teeth remained impeccably white. It turned out the two were color run veterans, having participated in last year’s event in downtown Pensacola.

“You learn to keep your mouth shut,” McLendon said “You hold your breath, close your eyes and walk very fast.”

The decision to move the color run to NAS this year came about when the air base reached out to Jubilee to help kick off its year-long centennial celebration, Newman said.

Jubilee officials haven’t yet settled on a location for next year’s run.

How to photograph AfterDark™ under UV Black Lights.

Ultraviolet lights, or “black lights,” cause objects that contain or are coated with a fluorescent element to glow in the dark. If you want to photograph an object that is placed under UV light, you can do so with any digital camera, including SLR digital cameras. Because the UV light is the only light being emitted, however, there are a few rules you will need to follow in order to capture a clean black-light photograph.

Instructions:

  1. Remove the camera’s UV filter.  Many cameras do not come with a UV filter.  If your camera has a UV filter it would be screwed onto the end of the camera’s lens. Grip the lens and the filter and turn the filter counterclockwise to unscrew it from the lens.

  2. Set the camera’s shutter speed to 1/8 of a second and set the camera’s ISO to 200. This is done differently with every camera, but it usually involves setting the camera to “Manual” and adjusting the settings from the camera’s menu. See the camera’s owner’s manual for specific details. With the camera’s ISO and shutter speed properly set, place the camera on a tripod.  Keep in mind, a tripod is needed to position the camera so there is no movement while the shutter is open.

  3. Plug in and turn on the UV black light. Turn off all of the lights in the room so that the UV light is the only light being emitted.   You will also want to remove all light from windows. Place the UV reactive object you wish to photograph directly under the black light.

  4. The closer the UV black light is to the object, the better the glow will photograph.  You may want more than one UV black light and have an assist hold a UV light close to the subject.

  5. Position the tripod and the camera so that the object being photographed can be seen through the camera’s viewfinder or on the camera’s digital screen.

  6. Press the camera’s shutter release to take the picture. With the ISO set at 200, the shutter speed set at 1/8 of a second and the camera mounted on a steady tripod, the picture should come out with the UV reactive object in glowing detail.

Tips:  You may want to experiment with increasing the ISO and decreasing shutter speed in order to achieve special effects.  Picas is a great FREE software application that can enhance your photograhs with editing features.
